Frequently Asked Questions
Evermore Recycling LLC is a new, independent company, formed by Novelis and Alcoa for the procurement of used aluminum beverage cans (UBCs).
Evermore Recycling is designed to create value by increasing efficiency, building stronger supplier relationships, and increasing recycling. Evermore Recycling will provide suppliers a direct relationship with two of the leading consumers and processors of UBCs within North America which is vital to achieving long-term success for the recycling industry. This new organization has a vested interest in building strong supplier relationships and further strengthening the supply chain due to its owners’ commitment to increasing utilization of recycled aluminum.
Recycling
In addition to purchasing metal, Evermore Recycling is committed to raising the UBC recycling rate toward the Aluminum industry’s objective of 75%. Achieving this target would reduce carbon emissions by approximately 9 million tons annually. Evermore will increase purchases of UBCs through both collection initiatives and the development of a broader supply base locally and internationally.
Evermore Recycling will be active in public policy development, with key industry partners, to expand and strengthen the recycling infrastructure, foster recycling education and support sponsorship initiatives. Our focus will be on programs that emphasize:
Shared Responsibility among all stakeholders (including consumers, producers and government)
Low cost recycling alternatives in conjunction with waste programs that are consumption driven rather than fixed rate driven
Transparency of costs with waste disposal and recycling systems
Business
For the balance of 2009 deliveries, Alcoa and Novelis will conduct business as usual with their existing suppliers. Evermore Recycling will initiate commercial relationships with prospective suppliers for deliveries effective January 1, 2010. Evermore Recycling will provide suppliers with the most professional and knowledgeable people in the industry. The company employs a strong network of regional buyers to provide suppliers with local, hands-on customer service. The company also offers national, global and in-house solutions through its corporate office in Nashville, TN.
Evermore Recycling will deliver greater efficiencies and value to the supplier chain (suppliers and buyers) in multiple ways:
Evermore Recycling plans to directly purchase UBCs from the upstream infrastructure, engaging with suppliers that meet quality and commercial requirements.
Suppliers will benefit from Freight Optimization
Permitting more predictable scheduling of deliveries.
Evermore Recycling will employ a freight optimization system to direct available UBCs to the lowest freight cost recycling facility. Lower freight costs will allow Evermore Recycling to be a more efficient alternative.
Quality initiatives will be developed and implemented, enabling suppliers to gain higher value for higher quality UBCs.
Improved and more uniform quality standards. There is a lack of uniformity in the UBC quality standard today. The plans include further refinement of the quality system to best represent material value and in doing this improved alignment will create the best value for the UBC suppliers.
